Well the weather really isn’t being very forgiving at the moment and as a result we had to take an almost unprecedented step yesterday and cancel one of our events.
A bit of rain isn’t normally enough to warrant a cancellation – a waterproof coat is normally enough and people generally warm up once they engage in physical activity! However when we get heavy rain in London a new and rather unpleasant force comes into play – that of sewage overspill from the Victorian sewer system! Now I don’t want to put anyone off coming along to our events here (!) because under normal conditions everything is dealt with properly and the river is actually relatively clean, but a couple of times a year after a lot of rain we do get this problem. It is also why the new Thames Tideway Tunnels scheme is planned so that we are rid of this issue once and for all. Our event site yesterday was in close proximity to two outlet points and so it was felt this was the best course of action under the circumstances.
The construction of the new tunnels will be a massive project and its just getting underway now with public consultations about to begin. Its certainly going to cause some local people a few headaches during its construction but in the long term it will be a good thing for the health of the river.
This morning was spent in the infamous Bat Cave sorting boots and gloves for the big events next week.

Exclusive sneak view of the inside of the Thames21 Bat Cave!
The afternoon was back at a considerably warmer office Tweeting like I’ve never Tweeted before about next week’s events! I don’t think there’s a corner of London that has been left unTweeted…
