A bit about me...

I am so chuffed at the opportunity to work with the animal lifeline team to help them in this cause which has become very dear to my heart. On a personal level I see this as vital to help me maintain my recovery from alcohol addiction

Post | I Dont Beliee-eve It!!!!

Well here we are on week 6 and its scary how fast the placement is goin. Firstly I must apologise to my readers (both of you!) for the delay and gap between posts but between Gill, my other half and Rosie, her daughter, gettin on the laptop is not easy and to be honest i am usually knackered in the evening!

Anyway things are goin well but still haven’t figured out how to get a pic on this badger! Anyway life in the dog rescue business goes on – Louie a lovely little Staffie youngster was rehomed a couple weeks ago, came back today! Seemingly he got up in the night! Pleeeze, these are seemingly intelligent mature adults who have made a considered decision to offer a rescue dog a home. To give up after a few days makes me soo MAD!!!!!

The good news is I haven’t been bitten for over a week now tho some of the dogs do look at me with a gleam in their eye. Dogs can be very intelligent and I am sure they must talk amongst themselves after lights out “check out the one one with the Arsenal hat on, Danny says he really tasty, better than Chappie!”

I have also been interviewed for BBC radio stoke, they sent a reporter with a small recorder and a big microphone. He recorded dogs barking and me banging feeding bowls(for background atmosphere!) and then recorded a question and answer session for about 15 minutes. Was on the breakfast show on the following Tuesday, total broadcast time 2mins and 45 secs but at least the charity got a mention. Best comment so far is from Adam at the kennels- “Alastair you have a face ideally suited to radio!” No chance of fame goin to my head then.

Rufus my friendly favourite golden retriever cross has not been well. Poor Rufus was diagnosed with colitus and put on a bland diet. For those of you who have ever considered Pedigree Chum to be yummy, imagine the shock to be reduced to plain biscuits and a special tin food that looks like regurgitated spam without the meat content! Now it would appear that he may have tumours and need further surgery, and who knows  what other treatment. Spare a thought for Rufus if you read this and there is a good chance that he may end up home with me and Gill and Tess ( our golden retriever) cos he aint stayin at the kennels if he is poorly. The great thing about Animal Lifeline is that they will pay for his treatment no matter how much or for how long whilst he has quality of life. How cool is that!!

A few weeks ago we had a crisis, the laundry froze! without the ability to wash and dry the bedding we were forced to dispose of it. Steve contacted the local press to appeal for bedding and bless joe ‘n jessie public we have been inundated with blankets etc. Yasmin my equivalent WOD person in the charity shop tells me they were even trolling the other charity shops in Newcastle(under-lyme) buying their bedding and dropping it in to ours – amazing!!

Spare a thought for the poor couple who came in last week lookin for a staffie to replace theirs. Seemingly they had taken theirdog for a walk in the local park when he decided to chase a tasty looking duck. the duck fled across the pond and unfortunately for the dog the ice broke and the poor thing drowned! For the benefit of Monika – the wod RSPB”girl” (her words) , the second half of my readership, the duck survived!!

Anyway time for bed now, will try better to blog more often!

Nite nite everyone
