I'm so happy and excited to be able to put my two passions into practice, that's making a difference and football. I've seen the impact football can have on this group of marginalised people, I hope to be able to gain knowledge to help the foundation achieve their GOAL!!!

Post | Road to Rio Sponsors Appeal-Homeless World Cup

Road to Rio Sponsors Appeal

he Road to Rio: The Need Of The Hour, The Hope Of The Future

We are seeking organisations and individuals that have the financial resources to make a real difference to our hopes of helping homeless projects with their travel costs to the world’s largest homeless world cup tournament taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this September 2010.

We are walking over 100 miles from London to Edinburgh this July to raise funds for The Homeless World Cup Foundation which uses football to energise and empower homeless people to change their own lives. A world-class annual international football tournament unites national teams of homeless players to stand proud. It has triggered and support football programmes for homeless people in over 70 counties working with 30,000 a year. The important bit is that over 70% of homeless players change their lives after participating.

There are great sponsorship opportunities for companies to support the whole event or localised parts of the event as well as individual countries which would provide instant global exposure at a major event alongside brands such as Nike, UEFA, Vodafone and many more.

The walk of over 100 miles takes 8 days, visits at least 8 cities and towns and meets local projects working with homeless people and using football. Starting in London and stopping in Luton, Leicester, Nottingham, Manchester and Liverpool and Newcastle before finally arriving in Edinburgh the headquarters of the Homeless World Cup foundation.

If you are interested in participating and want to know more about the challenge then please contact Jon Regler on 07713333359 or email jon@homelessworldcup.org

Post | The day in the life of a project manager

Hi

what a day lots of emails and calls to people who even now are thinking who the hell was that!! On a positive note got myself one project assistant and the promise of another, who would have thunk(sic) it , me with an assistant.

The Sponsored walk builds momentum and more enquiries leads to more possibilities and i begin to believe again, article about the latest volunteer appeared in the Local newspaper (see photo) and more people means more enthusiasm, so that’s all good.

On a personal note have delegated wedding planning to our own personal FRONK (spellcheck) and becomes a monster on its own for another blog maybe.

Made more lists and to-do’s and will sit back this weekend and relax in the knowledge that the world will keep turning without me, its a good lesson to learn.

Still always got my Crackberry to lean on so twetting and updates(fb) are still on the cards and look forward to finding out about my ancestors andscoff at how they managed without ‘tinternet’ and mobile phones.

Well deserved break i reckon for at least 48 hours!!!

Post | Planes, Trains and Auto-mobiles (well nearly)

hi all

Long time no speak as they say(don’t know who they are?) anyway, still working on the plan coming together with a couple of volunteers for the city liaison’s from liverpool and milton keynes and hoping for more people soon.

Travel arrangements for the tour taking shape albeit not as drastic as the title suggests, and have made some new friends in Brighton and found out about the amazing work they are doing.

Feel a bit like Alice in wonderland opening one door to find another three to explore the journey continues please stop me if i start talking about Cheshire cats.

Still looking for walkers and other volunteers to egt involved in a big or small way so if your interested drop me an email on jon@homelessworldcup.org.

Plans for a local drop football session take one step back and two forward a lesson in verbal contracts not worth the paper they’re written on!!!

But the guys i coach and work with keep me inspired, i wish more people understood the power of doing something like this and the rewards from it, and also the impact an hour in someone’s company when they need it most can truly have.

Anyway sermon over , keep reading, keep hoping and keep sharing for me

Spread the word, Homeless is not Hopeless

Post | I love it when a plan comes together

Been a while i know so i thought i would update you with what’s been happening, i have a few more people signed up to do the walk and has the people on board to make it a truly great experience.

Still need a few more so get in contact if your interested, locally plans coming together for a drop in session starting in April for homeless players to come and get involved and seeking partners for this.

Contacting local media is a thankless task and like running in honey as they say, still keep on knocking and hope one of them grabs the story, and runs with it all the way.

I was hoping to get to the Belgian Homeless Cup in Ghent, but that didn’t happen wish them well today though, adn hope to meet the winners in Rio.

Got lots of practising to do as well with presentations for the Rotary Club coming up, nervous me i don’t think so!!!

Every week i am coaching 2 teams now and this is where i get the real buzz and rewards these guys are always so keen and enjoy there break form the reality of life and spend an hour doing football coaching.

this is why the money raised is so powerfully impacting these guys and making a real difference if you haven’t already click on the link and support this work for projects near you.

Post | Oxford and beyond….

Hi all

Sorry for the gap in updates it has been a busy time and things are moving along nicely, have had meetings last week with the staff at the Homeless World cup in Edinburgh.

This was really useful and coming away with a clear plan and targets to achieve in the coming months and beyond, the local side of things  are moving full steam ahead.

I am in the middle of creating a drop in session for all homeless players in Oxford with the hope of starting something permanent with support, already backed by the city council and Oxford united this seems to be a plan that’s going to work.

Final plans for the Sponsored walk/tour are nearly ready and have had a lot of interest, will hope to finalise the 12 intrepid volunteers and have a get together in the near future.

If you know of anyone up for a challenge pass on my details, also working on a Football festival in Oxford in the summer which should be good.

Speak again soon

Cheers

Jon

Photos | The Following takes place between…..

Well what a difference a day makes, 24 litle hours to some a complete headache to me.

Had to re jig the plan completely and think of a way of doing the event in 7 days not 14 so this is what they mean by plan B, have sorted it and moved away from the original and moved to towards a grand tour of the country meeting and greeting local projects up and down the country.

Better plan and will be achievable for all, hope to meet some great people along the way, now all i need is a graphic designer to make me a flyer ( if anyone knows of one let me know) on the cheap.Gent Belgian Homeless Team

Also going to do a piece on me in the local Oxford Mail, so await the results, also hoping to go to the Belgian Homeless Cup in February, and meet an old friend from the Milan HWC 2009.(see Pic)

Please don’t forget to drop in to my Just Giving page and donate to this cause and my events

Photos | A new day a new challenge

So this is where it all starts in earnest, have began with a meeting yesterday that was both positive and informative with the guys locally involved in the BOBi league(Berkshire,Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Inclusive league) and came away with loads of ideas.

Have now got to get on with a plan for the sponsored walk event to be held in July!!!

had a bit of success already in sorting the accommodation and looks promising, its a bit daunting to be thrust into the world of deadlines and paperwork, so wish me luck.

i hope you take time to follow some of the links i have posted especially the fund raising link on just giving as thats going to have a real impact and i am a great believer in the ripple effect of paying it forward!!!

Please leave a comment if you have read something as its always good to know that i’m not talking to myself!!!
